East Beach, Norfolk Neighborhoods
In my humble opinion, East Beach is the most beautiful neighborhood in Hampton Roads. While every neighborhood has its drawbacks, East Beach overcomes hers with attention to detail that only a planned community can provide. East Beach is beautiful because the architecture and landscaping work together to tug at your heart strings (yes, I really said that). While technically in Norfolk, East Beach shares the personality of many Virginia Beach neighborhoods, so it is included here as one of the best neighborhoods in Virginia Beach!
I took the pictures of East Beach in the slideshow below to give you a taste of the look and feel for what the homes and streets are like in East Beach.
There is no shortage of websites advertising homes for sale in East Beach. The neighborhood website gives a flattering overview (though I think the slideshow of East Beach on this page has more to offer). So rather than repeat what you can find elsewhere, let’s talk about whether or not East Beach is right for you.
The residents of East Beach are deeply loyal to the neighborhood. It is new, exciting, and still being built. The green space is used often. Sometimes the kids are playing in it. Sometimes there is a band playing in it with the kids dancing near it. There’s a pool. And of course there’s the beach. So what you find is many neighbors waking up in the morning, taking in a deep breath full of East Beach, and heading out to enjoy everything the neighborhood has to offer. Do you remember Jim Carey in The Truman Show? Visit East Beach on a Saturday afternoon in June and you may never want to leave.
So is it perfect? Well, everyone has their skeletons in the closet, and East Beach is no exception. The public school system in Norfolk does not support a neighborhood like East Beach. I don’t know the percentage of kids in East Beach going to public schools, but I am certain that it is the lowest of any neighborhood featured on this site. The answer is to send your kids to private school, which is not a big deal if you know that going in. But with so many great neighborhoods in Virginia Beach with excellent schools, choosing East Beach can be a tough decision, especially if you have several kids! That said, many parents who live in Virginia Beach send their kids to private schools. So this may be a non-issue to you.
To be fair, there is probably not a city in America that doesn’t have an upscale neighborhoods within walking distance of a poor neighborhood. And beautiful neighborhoods like Larchmont and Ghent in Norfolk are no different. Is this a big deal? Not for those who have chosen to live in in East Beach! The beauty and security of this tight nit neighborhood far outweigh any perceived negatives.
Check out the pictures above and the homes for sale below to give you a better idea of whether or not East Beach is right for you. As always, you won’t know for sure until you do your research, pick up your phone to call me, and come to visit and go house hunting!
